Swordfight, 1854 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Swordfight, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a swordfight taking place on a verandah. The fellow in the foreground has fallen back on one knee, but he still manages to clash blades with his younger foe, who looks to the side with a worried expression. Blossoming cherry trees frame a view of the night sky beyond the pair. Nice detail in the setting with cloud motifs on the wooden panels of the railing.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown
