Sending an Opponent Flying, 1854

Comments - Great kabuki scene of a samurai sending an opponent flying, tumbling head over heels through the air. The warrior rests on one knee, his sword high above his head as he watches his enemy with a tight-lipped frown. His outer kimono is pushed down to the waist, revealing a tie-dyed kimono with the sleeves tied back with rope. Iris blossom along the edge of the water behind them, with what appears to be the arch of a stone bridge framing the night sky beyond. An intriguing image.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A couple small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
