Comments - Terrific scene of the Minamoto attacking Kusunoki Masashige and his troops, who are shut up inside Shihaya Castle. Kunsunoki foiled the assault, however, by setting fire to the bridge across a chasm. At upper left, the samurai hurl burning bundles of brush over the side of the fortress as the bridge below collapses in a burst of flames and smoke, sending the attackers plummeting to their deaths. At right, the Minamoto commander on a dappled horse watches with an angry expression, gesturing with his tasseled command baton. A fantastic samurai subject.
