Comments - Charming shin-hanga portrait of a beauty beneath the blossoming cherry trees or sakura at Heian Shrine. Published by Osaka Mainichi Publishing Company, this print was an insert in the English language "Nippon Today & Tomorrow" magazine in 1941. An extremely rare woodblock design by Nakamura Teii, who suffered severe burn injuries to his hands as a young man, but overcame his handicap by learning to paint holding the brush with both hands. He is best known as a painter of shin-hanga beauties, and exhibited his award-winning works in many Japanese exhibitions, earning national recognition.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small tear, a couple small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details.
