Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties Enjoying Fireworks

Comments - Terrific scene of beauties in a pleasure boat enjoying the evening cool and watching the fireworks display over the water. Inside the cabin, a woman drinks sake while two companions play shamisen. Another beauty leans of the side of the boat to dip her handkerchief in the Sumida River. At left, Ryogoku Bridge is crowded with pedestrians and teahouses line the opposite shore. At right, men launch the fireworks from a small boat, orange sparks exploding in the night sky above. A lovely summer scene with wonderful detail. The first time we've offered this subject.
