Nakamura Utaemon IV as Honjo Tsunagoro, 1849

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Utaemon IV as the ronin Honjo Tsunagoro in the play "Kotoba no hana momiji no Yozakari." He looks to the side with a worried frown, his arms folded behind his back. He wears a kimono patterned with the mast and ropes of a boat against blue water over a bold red and white print under robe, a white cloth tied around his neck. Lanterns on poles behind him feature different scenes, including a man with a sword in hand and a message in his mouth. A striking design.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 10" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases at edges, stain along edge. Please see photos for details.
