The 47 Ronin, Act 7: The Ichiriki Teahouse in Gion, 1851

Comments - Dramatic scene from Act 7 of the classic kabuki drama "Kanadehon Chushingura" of the samurai Teraoka Heiemon attacking his sister, the beauty Okaru, outside the Ichiriki Teahouse. After Yuranosuke accused the courtesan of spying on him, Heiemon vowed to kill her to demonstrate his loyalty to the vendetta. He raises his sword above his head, waving it threateningly as the frightened woman tosses a packet of tissues at him. Autumn grasses and blossoms fill the background. From left, the actors are Bando Shuka I and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. An intriguing image.
