A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Hiroshige's Gyosho Tokaido - After the incredible success of Hiroshige’s original Hoeido Tokaido in the 1830s, the artist designed several other series illustrating life along the Tokaido road. Named after the style in which the series title is written, the Gyosho Tokaido was published around 1841 - 1844. It features lively scenes focusing on the activities of travelers, winding through a rocky valley or climbing a steep mountain, pausing for a rest or stopping in a busy village or port. These charming designs are nicely colored and most feature fine bokashi shading. A nice complement to the more commonly seen Tokaido series.
