Miyoto Musashi Fighting Shirakura Dengoemon, 1851

Comments - Fantastic depiction of the samurai and master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi breaking his way out of a bathhouse. His enemy Shirakura Dengoemon had locked him in the bathhouse and set fire to it, hoping to boil him alive, but he escaped by using a wooden beam to crash through the wall. Emerging from the clouds of steam with the beam lifted above his head, he faces Dengoemon, who grips his sword, grimacing at his foiled plans. A bold design and a great scene from the play "Chigusa no akitsuki ni Miyamoto."
