The First Month (Mutsuki): Bando Shuka I as Tokimune and Arashi Rikan III as Asahina, 1854 - Great kabuki double portrait of Bando Shuka I as Sogo Goro Tokimune, the younger of the famous Soga Brothers, and Arashi Rikan III as his friend, the strong man Asahina. at top, Goro grimaces angrily as he recognizes the nobleman Suketsune, who was responsible for his father's murder. He wars a black kimono over a red under robe, each with a striking butterfly pattern. below, Asahina is worried about the confrontation, an alarmed frown on his face. His robe features cranes with their wings outstretched. Blossoming plum branches frame the night sky beneath a blue and white checked canopy. Beautifully detailed with burnishing on Goro's black kimono. The first time we've offered his handsome design.
