Original Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866) Japanese Woodblock Print
Man with a Shamisen Head, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting giga or comic print of two seated men. The fellow on the right has a shamisen for a head, and he stares at his companion as he holds out his hand. The man at left represents Sojobo, the king of the mythical tengu, with a huge head and an oversized mouth and nose that look even larger when compared with the tiny black cap he is wearing. An amusing design and a great example of Japanese comic prints.

Artist - Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Light vertical centerfold, fold at edge. A few wormholes, thinning spot, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
