The Battle of Ichi-no-tani: The Seto Shore Seen from Hiyodori-goe, 1843 - 1845

Comments - Dramatic scene from the Battle of Ichi-no-tani of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his retainers at the top of Hiyodori-goe, preparing to descend the steep cliff to attack the Taira fortress on the shore below. At upper right, Yoshitsune can be seen on a black horse amidst the thick foliage as a narrow waterfall cascades over the rock to the left. At lower right, the warrior Shigetada carries his frightened horse down the slope, the blindfolded animal perched over his shoulders. Drifting clouds emphasize the height of the location. A great image with wonderful detail.
