Bando Shuka I as the Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree and an Actor as Otomo Kuronushi, 1852 - Handsome kabuki double portrait featuring roles from the play commonly known as "Seki no To." The top image shows Bando Shuka I as the Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree, her long hair flowing over her shoulders as she waves a blossoming cherry branch above her head. Her red kimono is also patterned with cherry blossoms. Below, an actor appears at Otomo Kuronushi, gripping an ax and grimacing fiercely as he attempts to cut down the cherry tree. Nice expressive figures with fine line work in the hair, and light embossing on the beauty's pink kimono collar.
