Courtesan with a Butterfly Kimono Kakemono

Comments - Lovely portrait of an elegantly dressed young courtesan wearing an outer kimono with a striking pattern of butterflies with flowing, almost three-dimensional fringe trailing from them. Her hair is piled high atop her head with many combs and hairpins, the hairline delicately detailed with fine line work. The composition beautifully fills the narrow kakemono or vertical diptych format, with curving lines sweeping the eye down the page. A classic Edo era beauty design.

Artist - Eizan (1787 - 1867)

Image Size - 26 7/8" x 9" + margin as shown
