Beauty with Peony

Series; Beauties and Seven Flowers

Beauty with Peony - Charming portrait from a series pairing high-ranking women from the Imperial court with oversize blossoms. She looks shyly to the side, tilting her head down as she holds a round fan. Her purple outer robe features a pattern of waterwheels and splashing water, worn over red kimono and red print obi. Her hair is rendered with very fine line work, pulled back into a sleek ponytail adorned with a cluster of yellow flowers. Peony blossoms in pink, white, and red striped fill the background. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono collar.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Some slight creasing at edges. Pinholes at upper corners, repaired. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
