Comments - Interesting scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress paying a visit to a railroad station. In the center, two ladies-in-waiting lead the Empress by the hand as a third shelters her with an umbrella. The Emperor stands at left wearing a military uniform and plumed hat. A train can be seen on the tracks at upper right with an engineer looking out the window of the engine. A red floral carpet covers the floor and purple draperies overhead feature the Emperor's chrysanthemum crest. Beautifully detailed with burnishing on the black uniform and embossing on the white kimono collars.
