by Koryusai (1735 - 1790)
Comments - Terrific pillar print design of two beauties and a young man enjoying a picnic beneath a blossoming cherry tree. The beauty in the foreground looks up in surprise as a gibbon watches from a branch above, reaching down an impossibly long arm to either take their sake kettle or offer one to them. A charming image with wonderful detail, including touches of embossing on the kimono. A rare original Koryusai. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this image in its collection.
