Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Danjuro as Kochiyama Soshun, 1890

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as the notorious blackmailer Kochiyama Soshun, who is disguised as a priest. He wears a red robe over a white kimono and light blue under robe, grimacing angrily as he looks up. Most unusually, this print includes a flap attached at the top of the center panel which lifts up to reveal a different actor in the role. It's rare to find a kabuki print with a flap like this still attached. A great bold image with the large figure framed by text. Includes embossing on the white kimono.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical folds. Slight separation at end of fold, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details.
