Series; Selection of Ten Flowers Currently in Full Bloom

Begonia: Nakamura Jakuemon I and Onoe Kikugoro IV, 1858 - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Nakamura Jakuemon I and Onoe Kikugoro IV offstage, relaxing with a drink of sake. A oversize begonia with pink blossoms fills the night sky behind the pair. Hiroshige and Toyokuni III originally collaborated on a series paring actors and flowers in 1854 titled "Selection of Six Flowers Currently in Full Bloom." In 1858, the series was reissued with four additional designs and the title changed from "Six Flowers" to "Ten Flowers." A rarely seen collaborative series by Hiroshige I and Toyokuni III.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Vertical fold. Thinning and small loss at corner, thinning spot at edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
