Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Samurai Strength Contests

Comments - Unusual comic print depicting samurai engaged in different strength contests. At the bottom, two warriors take part in a neck-pulling contest, much like a tug of war. Above them, two samurai playing the same game tumble backwards as the red sash tied around their necks slips loose and goes flying, sending them both off balance. At top, two men seem to be trying to bend an iron club, with several onlookers watching closely. An interesting and unusual Kuniyoshi subject.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal and vertical folds. Slight soiling and creasing, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
