Scene from Chiyo no Haru Tosa-e no Saya-ate, 1861 - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "Chiyo no Haru Tosa-e no Saya-ate," featuring Sawamura Tanosuke III as the courtesan Kanbayashi Katsuragi and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the disgraced samurai Nagoya Sanza. Kneeling beside a palanquin, the beauty tosses a letter at her husband, who holds his sword between both hands, the sleeves of his kimono tied back with a sash. Blossoming plum branches frame the night sky above. Nicely detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on the black kimono and faint embossing on the white loincloth.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. Vertical fold in right panel. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
