Comments - Terrific, complete six-panel scene of Prince and Genji and his companions enjoying an evening of writing and composing verses in a room overlooking the water at Sodegaura in Sagami Province. The young nobleman sits on a cushion at right behind a low desk, a brush in hand and an open book before him. A young girl eagerly offers him a parcel wrapped in purple cloth. At left, a seated man writes on a roll of paper, looking down with a grin as a beauty reclines on the floor before him, reading a verse. Another man stands holding a poem slip and frowning slightly. The women are all elegantly dressed in layers of fine kimono. The room overlooks the harbor with the masts of ships anchored for the night visible at right, and fishing boats with glowing red fire baskets in the distance at left. Beautifully detailed, with soft bokashi shading in the sky and water. A wonderful scene, extremely rare to find complete in six panels. A great choice for a collector.
