Genji and Beauty in a Bedroom, 1852

Comments - Amusing scene of Prince Genji and a beauty in a bedroom as the young woman accidentally slips off the mattress, throwing one sleeve up in the air as the lacquered armrest tips over. The nobleman smiles with amusement, while an attendant kneeling beside him frowns with concern as he holds out a cloth-wrapped parcel. At right, another woman peers around the edge of the folding screen that provides privacy for the bed. Beautiful detail in the elegant interior setting and fabrics, including embossing on the white kimono trim.

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 28 3/4"
