Couple Sharing an Umbrella, 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a couple sharing an umbrella during a rainstorm, drops slanting across the dark night sky. The beauty looks down with a distraught expression, holding her sleeve to her chin. The pair wears matching white kimono patterned with bamboo over red under robes. Notice the handling of the raindrops, rendered in negative white space against the dark areas of the sky and as black lines against the lighter areas of the robes. A handsome design.
