Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Ichikawa Danjuro VI as Arajishi Otokonosuke

Comments - Terrific bust-length portrait of the famous kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro VI as the faithful samurai Arajishi Otokonosuke, who is charged with guarding the heir to the Date Clan. He stares ahead with a glum frown, his red stage makeup and flared sideburns giving him an imposing appearance. He wears a striking kimono patterned with carp leaping up a waterfall, over a red under robe. Beautiful shimmering mica detail in the background. A fantastic example of Toyokuni I's masterful actor prints.
