Visiting a Courtesan, 1857

Comments - Interesting scene of Ichikawa Danjuro as thief Shichinosuke paying a visit to the courtesan Okuma, played by Onoe Kikugoro. Shichinosuke has a dotted cloth wrapped about his head and face, giving him a rather mysterious appearance as he waits in the street outside the beauty's door. She stands in the doorway, smiling at him happily, a fan in her hand. At left, the rather haggard-looking prostitute Oko looks out unhappily on the scene, perhaps jealous of the lovely young beauty. A handsome subject with a nicely detailed setting and expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Small loss at corner, repaired. A few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
