Akechi Mitsuhide Escaping across Lake Biwa

Series; Hobby Association (Doraku Kyokai), 1895

Hobby Association - Unusual design from Kiyochika's 1895 satirical series "Hobby Association" (Doraku Kyokai). The twelve print series features comic depictions of classic samurai tales, including famous subjects such as the battle of Benkei and Ushiwakamaru (the future Yoshitsune) at Gojo Bridge and the armor-pulling scene from the Soga Brothers. These humorous scenes are drawn with lively, calligraphic line work, bringing these exaggerated characters to life. The first time we've offered prints from this rarely seen Kiyochika series.

Artist - Kiyochika (1847 - 1915)

Image Size - 6 3/4" x 9"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at sides. Vertical centerfold. Slight soiling, ink offsetting, a few creases. Some prints have thinning or slight separation at the ends of fold, repaired. Please see photos for details.
