Series; Six Jewel Rivers in Various Provinces
1891 Memorial Edition
A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Kinuta Jewel River of Settsu Province - Lovely design of women fulling cloth along the shore of the Kinuta Jewel River in Settsu Province, also known as the Cloth Fulling River. The women are pounding cloth with wooden mallets, a process called fulling that entangles the fibers to create a stronger fabric. The calm blue water of the river winds its way through the landscape, framed by pine trees with rounded hills in the distance. A flock of birds flies before a full moon glowing softly in the darkening evening sky. The poem by Toshiyori reads, "The sighing of the pine branches sharpens the autumn loneliness, where they beat the cloth by the banks of Tama River." Beautifully detailed. This print is from the 1891 Memorial Edition.
