Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Warrior and Beauties

Comments - Fantastic scene of an imposing warrior in formal court dress, his sword in hand and a group of beauties gathered around him. The elegantly dressed women watch him with interest. He wears a black robe patterned with Buddhist wheels and a tall black cap. His red makeup and flared wig create a fearsome appearance, enhanced by the dragon on the screen behind him. Extensive embossing on the black robe, wig, and cap, with a subtle pattern to indicate the texture of the hat. A bold and dramatic kabuki print, great to collect or display.
