Enjoying the Evening Cool

Series; A Mirror of the Flowering of Manners and Customs, 1878

Enjoying the Evening Cool - Lovely portrait from a series of contemporary beauties by Kunichika published in 1878. These attractive designs feature women in a variety of activities from daily life. Here, a beauty leans over the edge of a pleasure boat to rinse a tiny blue and white porcelain cup. She wears a finely striped gray kimono shadowed to indicate the folds over a red tie-dyed under robe. She looks up over her shoulder, biting on a small pink cloth, a few loose wisps of hair blowing about her face. Beautifully drawn and detailed with fine line work and soft shading, enlivened with touches of vibrant color. A rarely seen series and a terrific Meiji era beauty print.

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
