A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Kagero (Mayfly), Chapter 52 - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as the sumo wrestler Akitsushima in a scene from the play "Shobuzuke." He glares angrily as he looks over his shoulder, a brush caught between his teeth and a long letter trailing onto the floor before him. With his other hand, he grasps the edge of a brazier filled with red hot coals, his sword and a writing set nearby. Signs hang on the wall behind him, and the inset above depicts drake flies hovering above a winding stream. A great expressive figure, nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading in the background.
