Nakamura Shikan as a Wandering Monk at New Year's, 1869

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as a komuso or wandering monk. He looks back over his shoulder with an angry frown, his basket hat in one hand and a black monk's mantle draped over his blue kimono. The top of a stone torii gate can be seen at upper right above a traditional New Year decoration of a branch hung with money and lucky objects, and light glows in the upper story windows at left. A nice design with a large expressive figure and an interesting setting.

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + left margin as shown
