Original Ginko (active 1874 - 1897) Japanese Woodblock Print
Royal Couple, 1881

Comments - Handsome image of a royal couple strolling through a park in spring. The young man wears a black uniform jacket trimmed with epaulets and gold braid, while the princess is dressed in traditional Meiji women's court attire of a white kimono tucked into red pants, along with a geometric print robe and a headdress. They are accompanied by ladies-in-waiting, some sheltering them with umbrellas while the beauty at right carries the prince's hat. Behind her, water splashes from fountains in a garden pond. An interesting subject, nicely detailed and colored.
