Genpei Snow Moon Flowers

Comments - Attractive depiction of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his retainers gathered under the cherry trees at Suma to erect a signpost after the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani on March 21, 1184 during the Genpei War. The warrior monk Benkei sits on the ground in the center, the signboard on his lap and a brush in hand as he writes the inscription on it. Yoshitsune sits on a folding stool at right, watching with a stern expression. The other samurai sit soberly around him, one looking off into at the waterfall in the distance. Pink and white cherry blossoms frame the scene, with lavender-edged clouds drifting through the valley at left. A handsome design with wonderful detail in the armor and a lovely landscape setting.
