by Shunsen (1762 - circa 1830)
Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych of an elegantly dressed courtesan. Her outer robe features the takaramono or precious things, auspicious objects that include sacred jewels, a magic mallet that shakes out treasure, a hat that makes the wearer invisible, and a straw raincoat that allows the wearer to fly. Her checked obi is tied into a large bow, and her hair is pulled smoothly back into two loops, adorned with large combs and many hairpins. A beautiful design with graceful, flowing line work.
