A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Bando Mitsugoro IV as Ukiyo Matahei, 1832 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Bando Mitsugoro IV as the townsman Ukiyo Matahei in the play "Tenjiku Tokubei karakoto banashi," a famous ghost story about the beauty Kasane, who became possessed by the spirit of an evil woman. Here, Matahei stands beside a brazier with clouds of smoke rising from it. He looks over his shoulder with a scowl, a fan in one hand as he lifts the edge of his robe with the other. A mosquito net over a frame rests on the floor nearby. An interesting scene, nicely detailed.
