Couple and Falling Maple Leaves by Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Couple and Falling Maple Leaves

Series; The Yamato Newspaper Supplements

The Yamato Newspaper Supplements - Interesting woodblock from a series of supplements to the daily Yamato Newspaper (Yamato shimbun) around 1885 - 1889. These chuban format scenes are by a variety of artists, including Yoshitoshi and Toshikata, done as covers for short novels or stories, which were sometimes published in multiple parts. Subjects range from samurai and beauties to modern couples and daily activities. This intriguing series is quite rare and would make a great popular culture addition to a Meiji era collection.

Special detail - Embossing on the background of the title cartouche.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Image Size - 9 1/2" x 6 7/8"

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
