by Kokunimasa (1874 - 1944)
Comments - Attractive image of a new mother bringing her infant to visit a shrine for the first time. She cradles the baby in her arm, smiling happily and gesturing at the ginkgo leaves falling through the air. An attendant shelters her with an orange umbrella patterned with a crane, while a young girl follows behind, carrying an offering wrapped in cloth. A statue of a lion is perched on a rugged rock behind them, while the silhouette of another temple building can be seen at upper left. A lovely image, beautifully colored and detailed, with embossing on the white kimono trim, burnishing on the black obi, and fine bokashi shading in the background.
