Trapa Japonica: Nakamura Shikan, 1865 - Terrific kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan offstage, relaxing in a blue and white cotton kimono and smoking a pipe. The background is filled with oversized Trapa Japaonica, a flowering water plant known in Japanese as "hishi," which means diamond- or lozenge-shaped. A handsome design from a rarely seen Kunichika series pairing actors with flowers and grasses.
