Lasting Impressions of a Later Genji Collection - Handsome image from a series illustrating the famous Japanese novel "The Tale of Genji." Each print illustrates a chapter in Murasaki's beloved story with a scene from the life of Prince Genji, a nobleman of the Minamoto Clan. Beautifully drawn figures are accompanied by elegant furnishings, set against a background of subtle embossed patterns and clouds of confetti. Lovely detail in the sumptuous kimono fabrics and household items. A beautifully printed series dating from 1857 to 1861. This design includes burnishing on the black areas of the obi and the black lacquer basin, and embossing on the white kimono trim.
