Original Fusatane (active 1854 - 1888) Japanese Woodblock Print
Flowers at Yatsuhashi

Comments - Charming scene of Prince Genji and beauties visiting an iris garden at Yatsuhashi, pausing to enjoy a snack on the wooden walkways over the water. At right, a woman in a black kimono holds a sweet from a dish beside her as she chats with her companion. The young nobleman wears a blue kimono patterned with birds and holds a folding fan. Blossoming irises grow along the walkways, and a few fish bob to the surface at left in search of food. An attractive design.
