by Yoshimori (1830 - 1884)
Comments - Charming design of a rooster and two chicks perched on a large drum, with the leaves of a vine changing color in autumn. The image comes from the old tale of a drum placed outside the palace gates, for visitors to sound when desiring an audience with the daimyo. During times of wise rule, the drum was never needed, so roosters could rest atop the drum undisturbed. A handsome design with nice calligraphic line work.
