A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Forty-eight Selected Views of Edo, 1892 - Not much is known or published about this unusual and rare series, "Forty-eight Selected Views of Edo," which features some of the finest designs from Hiroshige's original "One Hundred Views of Edo" series. Published in 1892 by Kodama Matashichi, the series includes striking prints produced with the original blocks, and in some cases, the addition of new blocks. This memorial series includes some of Hiroshige's most memorable images, many of which are now hard to find from the original edition. Beautifully detailed with soft shading and fine line work, prints from the "Selected Views" are a great opportunity to acquire these classic Hiroshige subjects.

Ryogoku Ekoin and Moto-Yanagibashi Bridge - Terrific early spring view of the Sumida River and the Moto-Yanagibashi Bridge that lies beyond. Cargo ships travel south along the water before dawn, carrying goods to the morning markets. In the foreground, a giant drum tower rises above the Buddhist temple of Ekoin, the white cloth indicating good weather for the sumo match that was held on the grounds twice a year. The snow-covered peak of Mt. Fuji rises in the distance above the rosy skyline. A handsome design, attractively colored and shaded.
