by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych of a courtesan smiling as she strolls down the street on tall wooden geta clogs. She wears a black kimono patterned with large peony blossoms and buds, tied with a gray obi with a design of large motifs surrounded by flaming sacred jewels. Her hair is pulled back into a knot adorned with two combs and many decorative hairpins featuring small butterflies. An attractive design.
