Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ueno Kiyomizu, 1879

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties visiting Kiyomizu Shrine in Ueno. The elegantly dressed women are gathered on a verandah overlooking the Shinobazu Pond, with a young princess at left. A blossoming cherry tree frames a view of the water, with the peak of Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. A beautiful design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and trim, and touches of metallic pigment that have oxidized to a dark tone. The first time we've offered with attractive spring subject.
