A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Man about to Commit Suicide, 1843 - 1846 - Interesting kabuki scene of a man about to commit suicide, clutching a dirk wrapped in silk in one hand and a tray in the other. Dressed in a light blue death robe, he frowns angrily at the kneeling beauty at right as another woman sprawls on the floor before him. Her kimono is decorated with a scene of a thatched roof house alongside a following river or stream. At lower left, a man clutches a young child to his chest, glaring angrily at the man in the center. Sliding panels decorated with fan designs run across the back of the room. Nice expressive figures in an interesting setting.
