A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Taira no Kagekiyo, 1849 - Great illustration from the play "Ichi-no-tani musha-e no iezuto." At left, the great Taira warrior Kagekiyo strikes a pose as his sweetheart, the courtesan Akoya, plays the koto at right. Kagekiyo was captured and imprisoned by the Minamoto after the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani. Iwanaga Soren, one of his captors stands at right, hunching forward as he listens, the prisoner's barred cell in the cave behind them. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro VIII, Ichikawa Kodanji IV, and Onoe Kikujiro II. A terrific design with a bold graphic.
