Instructive Index of All Sorts of Proverbs - Kuniyoshi's 1843 series "Instructive Index of All Sorts of Proverbs" features portraits of beauties accompanied by proverbs. At upper right, the small black square atop the title cartouche contains a hiragana character, ordering the prints in the kana syllabary order in place of numbering. The young women are shown in scenes from daily life, with the proverb contained in a text inset above. A charming and rarely seen series, with fine detail in the kimono and obi fabrics and the household furnishings.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Stitching holes at side, wormholes, a few small losses at edges, repaired. Toning, spotting, soiling. Please see photos for details.
