Yatsuhashi, Chapter 6 - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Teranishi Kanshin crossing a wooden walkway over an iris pond in a scene from the play "Hiyoku no inazuma." Kanshin is actually the rogue Fuwa Banzaemon, who has stolen a valuable scroll in a conspiracy to take over his dead master's domain. He wears a purple kimono patterned with stylized skulls, lifting the hem with one hand as he walks along, scowling as a cuckoo flies overhead. Purple iris bloom along the water's edge, the walkway zigzagging across the pond into the distance. A great design, beautifully colored and detailed.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Soiling and toning. Rubbing and creasing. Some small losses, repaired. Some paper remnants from previous backing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
