Kaidomaru and Yamauba - Terrific kabuki triptych showing the young boy Kaidomaru (also known as Kintaro) and his mother, the wild woman Yamauba, in an encounter with an elderly woodsman. Kaidomaru carries a large axe painted with flames, suspended from a purple and white striped sash. Yamauba stands calmly at left, holding a small hand drum and a drumstick, eying the old man intently. Her kimono features a design of leafy vines and her hair falls loosely over her shoulders. A waterfall rushes down a rocky cliff in the background, framed by leaves and pine branches. From left the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro, and Onoe Kikunosuke as both Kaidomaru and the woodsman. A great design with large figures and rich color. Includes embossing on the old man's white hair.
